The Lamb of God

The Lamb of God

Exodus 12:21: Then Moses called for the leaders of Israel and said, “Tell each of your families to slaughter the lamb they have set apart for the Passover.”

One day imagine your dad comes home with a new pet. It’s a little lamb. He says, “We’re keeping the pet in the house for a few days.”

The lamb is cute and you have fun with it. You teach it a trick or two. At night, it sleeps on your bed. During the day, you run around with the lamb and it bleats and gambols and rolls over. It’s the greatest fun you’ve ever had.

But on the last day of the week, something terrible happens. Dad takes that lamb away. Later, he returns with a dead lamb and its blood in a bowl. He splashes the blood on each side of your front door.

Would you weep? Would you be angry?

God gave the Jews this very situation in the Passover. Jews kept the lamb and then put it to death so none of their own children would have to die.

The lamb represents Jesus. He is the one who died in our place. Have you put your trust in the lamb? Is he your Savior? Why not settle the issue today?

Prayer: Lord, it hurts to see innocent animals die. But I know it was your way of showing us how we should feel about Jesus. Thank you for sending him for me. Amen.
